Lacul Bugeac

About Bugeac Lake

General information: Bugeac Lake is the most southern from the river banks, has high and steep borders that can reach up to 30 meters and its flat ground is gulf shaped. The lake is conected to the Danube, having a  dam that regulates the water exchange. In the western side there is a high and rocky (calcareous) strip. On the right slope there is the remarkable existence of an touristic unexlplored cave, formed in the fossil bearing deposits of this area. The cave is a propitious place for the water birds to pass the winter. Many of the bird species are very important, considering conservation, like the curly pelican (Pelecanus crispus) for instance.
